We need an experienced Utility Excavator Operator to dig, trench, and backfill water, sanitary sewer, and storm-drain lines on site-development projects across Baltimore–Washington Area. The right candidate is skilled with 15- to 40-ton excavators, laser/trench safety systems, and tight urban work zones.

Core Responsibilities

• Safely operate tracked excavators to excavate trenches, set manholes, and place bedding material.
• Read plans, cut sheets, and laser stakes; maintain proper depth, slope, and alignment.
• Load, move, and grade aggregates; perform precise benching for shoring or trench boxes.
• Coordinate with pipe layers, foremen, and truck drivers to maintain production goals.
• Conduct daily walk-arounds, grease points, and minor repairs; report equipment issues.
• Follow OSHA/MOSH and MDE erosion-control requirements; complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
• Assist with backfilling, compaction, and site cleanup as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience operating excavators on underground utility crews.
• Proven ability to dig within 0.1 ft tolerances using lasers or GPS.
• Knowledge of trench safety, soils classification, and pipe-laying sequences.
• Ability to read utility plans, crossing charts, and traffic-control layouts.
• Reliable transportation and strong attendance record; able to lift 50 lbs and work in all weather.
