The Journeyman Concrete Form Carpenter (Heavy Civil) is responsible for constructing and installing complex formwork systems for bridge and aqueduct structures, including substructure and superstructure components. This role requires experience working on DOT-regulated infrastructure projects and the ability to build large-scale, structurally engineered forming systems with precision.

This is not commercial slab work — candidates must understand bridge sequencing, falsework, heavy picks, and structural tolerances.

Core Bridge / Aqueduct Responsibilities

Build and set forms for:

• Bridge footings
• Abutments
• Wing walls
• Piers and pier caps
• Bent caps
• Columns (round and rectangular)
• Box culverts
• Aqueduct walls and channels
• Headwalls and retaining systems
• Construct soffit forms for bridge decks
• Assist with overhang bracket systems
• Install stay-in-place deck forms (SIP)
• Work with falsework and shoring towers
• Install chamfers, blockouts, embeds, and anchor bolts
• Coordinate closely with rebar crews and survey teams
• Strip forms safely over water or elevated work zones
• Maintain plumb, elevation, and structural tolerances per DOT specs

Form Systems Experience (Preferred)

• Experience with engineered forming systems such as:
• Doka heavy civil systems
• PERI VARIO / bridge systems
• EFCO gang forms
• Symons steel panel systems
• Job-built timber systems for large structural pours

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of heavy civil concrete forming experience
• Verifiable bridge or large infrastructure project experience
• Ability to read structural bridge drawings and section details
• Experience working from layout hubs and survey control
• Knowledge of camber, grade, and elevation control
• Comfortable working at heights and around water
• Ability to work around cranes and heavy picks

Production & Technical Expectations

• A qualified Journeyman Bridge Form Carpenter should be able to:
• Independently build and set pier cap forms
• Layout and construct abutment walls with proper batter
• Understand bridge deck forming sequencing
• Work within tight tolerances required for bearing seats
• Maintain productivity under DOT inspection standards
• Build safe and secure bracing for high-load structural pours

Safety Requirements

• OSHA 10 (OSHA 30 preferred)
• Fall protection certified
• Experience working with:
• Strict adherence to DOT and Corps of Engineers safety standards

Physical Requirements

• Lift 75+ lbs regularly
• Work at heights 30–100 ft
• Work over water or uneven terrain
• Molerate extreme weather conditions

Schedule

• 50–60+ hours per week typical
• Four 10’s or 5–6 day schedules common
• Night pours possible
• Overtime expected during deck placements

Preferred Experience

• DOT bridge projects
• Corps of Engineers aqueduct work
• Cofferdam forming
• Experience around pile caps and drilled shafts
• Experience coordinating with survey crews for elevation control
