The Electrical Groundhand supports journeyman electricians and crews performing medium- and low-voltage electrical work on power & utility project. This role is responsible for material handling, cable preparation, grounding support, and jobsite safety, with a strong focus on learning proper electrical work practices in high-risk environments.
This position is ideal for individuals looking to build a career in the electrical trade, particularly in industrial power, substations, solar, or utility infrastructure.
● Assist electricians with installation, termination, and testing of electrical systems
● Support medium-voltage (MV) cable work, including:
· Pulling, racking, and staging MV and LV cable
· Assisting with cable preparation (jacket removal, shielding prep under supervision)
· Supporting grounding and bonding installations
● Handle and stage materials, tools, and termination kits
● Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
● Assist with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures as directed
● Set up and remove barricades, warning signage, and arc-flash boundaries
● Follow all site safety plans, OSHA requirements, and electrical safe-work practices
● Perform basic hand-tool and power-tool tasks as assigned
● Support electricians during shutdowns, outages, and commissioning activities
● Communicate effectively with foremen and crew leads
● Prior experience working on electrical, utility, industrial, or construction sites
● Familiarity with basic hand tools and jobsite safety practices
● Ability to follow directions and work safely around energized equipment
● Strong work ethic and willingness to learn the electrical trade
● Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and site-specific training
● Previous experience as an electrical helper, groundhand, or apprentice
● Exposure to:
○ MV or LV cable installation
○ Substation, power, utility projects
○ Industrial or production environments
● OSHA 10 (Construction)
● Interest in progressing to apprentice or journeyman electrician
● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
● Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
● Ability to work in trenches, substations, vaults, and industrial facilities
● Willingness to work extended hours, four ten-hour shifts (4×10s), weekends, or overtime as required
