Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for producing and reviewing electrical engineering design solutions in line with project inputs. Providing safe and efficient power facilities through electrical design solutions that comply
with our occupational health, safety and environmental regulations at all times.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliverables: Drawings, Calculations, Specifications, Data Sheets, Quotations, Scope
of Work, Inspections & Test Plans, Test Documents.
• Programming: Protections Relays, kWh Meters, Power Monitors, Governors, other
ancillary programable devices as required.
• Purchase Requirements: For Customized and Standard Electric Equipment.
• Check & Approve: Electrical Design Drawings
• Inspect & Test: Customized Electrical Equipment.
• Safe isolation, maintenance and troubleshooting of 480V to 15KV power systems
• Read, understand and interpret electrical and instrumentation schematics and P&ID’s.
• Safely diagnose problems within electrical generation units and control systems
• Competency performing isolation and switching of Low Voltage and Medium Voltage
Switchgear, Fused Disconnects and Circuit Breakers
• Knowledge of PLC, I/O, HMI, drives and other control systems
• Experience with generator systems including synchronization, relay protection and
control
• SCADA network configurations, setup, and interface programming
• Technical and cost estimating support to Business Development.
• Participate in expansion & streamline of computerised Electrical Calculations
methods.
• Develop knowledge of Engineering Procedures
• Ensure that Specifications and Drawings sufficiently describe Scope of Works and
protect company’s interest.
• Maintain a high level of knowledge of electrical products and technologies.
• Ensure a Safe Workplace for Staff and Customers in accordance with the HSE Management Plan:
• Reporting all risks/hazards/incidents/near misses and accidents, and Removing or modifying any unsafe processes or systems.
• Any other tasks as requested by your manager.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred.
• Five years professional industrial electrical design experience, preferably in the power,
gas and mining industries.
• Familiarity with generation operation including synchronization, relay protection,
governor controls and maintenance.
• Knowledge of OSHA and NFPA 70E safety policies and procedures is required (e.g.
lock out / tag out, high voltage electrical).
• Proficient in software and OEM programs such as Allen Bradley ControLogix
• Familiar with Ethernet IP protocols
• Experience with wiring diagram development and redlining incorrect schematics.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems, identify root causes and propose and implement
remedies.
• Ability to perform calibrations, installation and maintenance of process and analytical
instrumentation.
• Ability to troubleshoot and re-wire electrical equipment such as AC/DC motors, VFDs,
PLCs, and PLC I/O modules.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be available for after hour call outs as required
• Must be able to travel to remote sites as required.
