This is a skilled craft position that constructs, erects, and repairs built-in-place or
prefabricated forms and structures, including concrete footings, slabs, walls,
columns, bridge decks, and bent caps. The role requires familiarity with machines
used for bridge finishing layouts, tying rebar, and other duties related to heavy civil
construction.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Erect built-in-place forms or assemble and install prefabricated forms
according to blueprints.
• Inspect work-in-progress to ensure it meets specifications.
• Maintain, protect, and use assigned resources efficiently.
• Identify extra work or changes and report to project management.
• Perform all work according to safety standards, using proper tools.
• Assist with survey, field layout, and support estimators/engineers in new
work pursuits.
• Meet quality control standards and promote safety on all sites.
• Provide on-the-job training and lead by example in safety and productivity.
Knowledge
• Ability to read and follow blueprints, prepare layouts, estimate materials, and
verify work compliance.
• Experience with pile driving, concrete forming, beam erection, shoring,
cofferdams, drilled-shaft foundations, and bridge deck placement.
• Knowledge of bridge superstructure and substructure construction.
• Work within precise accuracy standards and recognize differences in forms.
• Skilled in safe, efficient use of trade tools and equipment.
Qualifications
• 3+ years’ experience as a bridge carpenter in heavy construction preferred.
• Strong skills interpreting drawings/project specifications.
• Knowledge of pile driving, form erection/removal, steel placement, concrete
finishing, and erosion control.
• Understanding of survey controls, grade checking, and bridge geometry.
• Competent in reading civil construction plans.
• Valid driver’s license.
